What is Counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy that provides people with a friendly, safe and non-judgmental environment to express and work on issues or concerns they have. Counselling is for general issues not needing a diagnosis of a mental health disorder. Counselling uses scientific psychological theories and therapies to support people with addressing their issues. Counsellors will not judge, diagnose you or label you in any way. Instead they will listen and support you to find solutions and understanding for your situation. Counselling is not a regulated industry so it is of the utmost importance that you ensure you choose a counsellor who is registered with an association who monitors their practice and provides a strict code to work by. Counsellors qualifications can vary from no qualification or study to many years of study. It is important to ask your counsellor if they are registered and qualified and how many years of study they have had and their experience in the industry.
What Counselling isn't ?
Counselling is not psychology or psychotherapy. Psychologists are trained to diagnose mental health conditions using a tool called DSM5. Psychologists train for 4-8+ years to gain a qualification to work in the industry. Psychiatrists are doctors who have studied medicine and how to treat psychiatric illness. They study for 8+years.

How long are counselling sessions?
Counselling sessions generally run for 60 minutes however we also offer 15 and 30 minute quick phone sessions.
How many counselling session will I need?
Everyone's situations are different.  Some people may be happy with one session and others may need ongoing weekly sessions. On average most people have around 4-6 sessions, these may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your situation.
Is counselling confidential?
The counsellor may or may not keep notes on your case. You can ask to see the counsellors notes at anytime. Confidentiality is your right to privacy.
All personal information gathered by a counsellor during the provision of the counselling service will remain confidential and secure except when:
  1. It is subpoenaed by a court; or
  2. The information would place you or another person at risk; or
  3. Your prior approval has been obtained to either provide a written report to another professional or agency (eg. your medical practitioner or lawyer), or discuss the material with another person (eg. your parent or employer or counsellors supervisor)
Cancellations, No Shows and Late Arrivals:
24 hours notice of cancellations is required – call 0417 839 548 to reschedule your appointment
You are allowed 1 cancellation for emergency situations outside this 24 hours. Please call to cancel or you will be billed full fee.
All other missed/unattended sessions will be billed at full price.
We will text or call you to confirm your appointment a day before your appointment.
If you are late for your session there will be no extra time allocated for you as other clients will be booked in so please ensure you leave ample time to attend at your appointed time, you will still be required to pay full fee.
